Dear City Administrator,
This letter is to solicit your assistance in providing new addresses or address changes that you may have in your community. As you know, assigning of names and addresses of new residences or new streets, etc. are all the responsibility of the city.
This information needs to be shared as soon as possible with Lyon County Public Works, GIS department. There will be a fillable form on the Lyon County Public Works website by April 15, 2015.
The county GIS department then shares this information with the Lyon County PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) so that the 911 data base can be updated.
If these new addresses, streets, etc. do not get passed on to Lyon County GIS it does not get into the 911 system.
I am sure you can understand the importance of this information getting to the PSAP. As it is now, if a landline call is made from a residence, the computer will plot it out at that address and it will attach a name, who the ambulance and fire and law enforcement providers are along with the address. This is extremely important life and safety issue. Even if the call is made by a cell phone, the first thing that the 911 dispatcher asks is “what is the address of your emergency?” If we don’t have that address, or even street in our computer, it can slow emergency response.
What we are requesting is that new addresses and/or street information be sent as soon as possible to our GIS. Using the fillable form on the website should make this a relatively easy process.
